Brand-neutral system upgrade

Keep the LEDs. Improve the Power Strategy.

TMT power supplies are designed for constant-voltage LED signage loads. That makes them a practical consideration for new builds and service work even when the installed modules are another brand. The voltage, connected wattage, output grouping, wiring, environmental rating, and applicable code requirements must still be matched correctly.

Power Supply FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

These answers combine the supplied TMT datasheets with current product information published by TMT LEDs. Final design and installation must follow the selected model datasheet and applicable electrical codes.

Can I use a TMT power supply with another brand of LED modules?

Potentially, yes. These are constant-voltage LED drivers intended for signage modules, LED strips, and similar constant-voltage loads. The LED system must match the driver's 12V or 24V output, remain within the usable output capacity, and meet wiring, environmental, and code requirements. Brand name alone does not determine compatibility.

How do I choose between a 12V and 24V power supply?

Match the output voltage to the LED modules or strips. A 12V LED system requires a 12V constant-voltage driver, while a 24V system requires a 24V driver. Never assume the voltages are interchangeable.

How do I select the correct wattage?

Add the connected wattage of all LED modules on the driver and account for practical design headroom, wire runs, environmental conditions, and any manufacturer guidance. Some TMT installation literature recommends operating below the full nameplate rating. Amcad can help confirm the appropriate model for a specific layout.

Why do the 24V 100W, 200W, and 300W models show lower rated output values?

The product family uses nominal wattage names, while the supplied datasheets list rated outputs of 96W, 192W, and 288W respectively. Use the rated-output value from the model datasheet when calculating the connected load.

What does Class 2 mean on these power supplies?

Class 2 refers to a limited-power circuit classification used in low-voltage installations. The featured TMT models divide higher total capacity into multiple limited output groups where applicable. Installation requirements still depend on the specific model, wiring method, listing, and local electrical code.

What are the multiple output groups?

The datasheets list separate output groups on several models, such as two 5A groups on the 120W 12V model, five 5A groups on the 300W 12V model, and three 4A groups on the 300W 24V model. Loads must be distributed according to the model's wiring and rating requirements.

Are these power supplies suitable for outdoor signage?

The supplied datasheets list IP67/IP68 protection and TMT product literature describes UL dry, damp, and wet location use for applicable models. Outdoor suitability depends on proper installation, grounding, drainage, ventilation, connections, enclosure conditions, and adherence to the exact product listing.

What efficiency should I expect?

The supplied datasheets list typical efficiency of 88% for the featured 60W 12V model, 91% for the featured 12V P-series models, and 93% for the featured 24V models. Actual performance can vary with input voltage, load, temperature, and installation conditions.

What input voltage do the drivers accept?

The current datasheets generally list a broad universal AC input range, with exact minimums varying by model. Several list 100-277VAC or 120-277VAC and identify a wider extreme-input range. Always use the specific datasheet and product label for the model being installed.

What surge and fault protection is included?

The datasheets list surge protection plus over-current, over-voltage, short-circuit, and over-temperature protection. Surge levels and recovery behavior are model-specific, so the datasheet should be checked when designing for the installation environment.

What is derating and why does temperature matter?

Derating means reducing the allowable output load as case or ambient temperature rises. Each datasheet includes a derating curve. Adequate ventilation and thermal management help keep the power supply within its operating envelope and support service life.

Can multiple power supplies be connected in parallel?

Do not parallel outputs unless the manufacturer explicitly allows it for the exact models and installation. TMT installation literature also warns installers to consider the current-carrying capacity of the AC supply wiring when multiple drivers are used.

What wiring colors are shown in the datasheets?

The diagrams generally identify black as AC line, white as AC neutral, green as protective earth, and red/black or grouped colored conductors for DC output. Wiring colors and group assignments must be verified on the selected driver's label and datasheet before connection.

Does the metal housing need to be grounded?

Yes. The installation information for these metal-housed drivers indicates that protective earth must be connected reliably. Installation should be performed by qualified personnel using approved connectors and methods.

What warranty applies?

The uploaded 2026 datasheets state a five-year warranty for the featured models, while some older or alternate TMT product pages describe other warranty periods for similarly named series. Use the Amcad product page, invoice terms, and exact datasheet revision to confirm the warranty for the unit being purchased.

Can Amcad help calculate the required power supply?

Yes. Provide the LED brand and model, voltage, module quantity, wattage per module, sign dimensions, wire-run details, and installation environment. Amcad can help narrow the correct TMT power supply and output configuration. TMT also offers a layout system for supported TMT module designs.

Technical basis: TMT 12V 60W, 120W, 180W, 240W, and 300W datasheets; TMT 24V 100W, 200W, and 300W datasheets; and current TMT LEDs manufacturer product information. Electrical installation must be completed by qualified personnel.
